The Indian team produced a spirited performance against Jordan on Wednesday to take the higher-ranked team to overtime before going down 84-91 in the opening game of the FIBA Asia Cup.
“We have a young team and we just had some mental breakdowns at the end. But really proud. This is a team that I guess was not supposed to be as good as, but we had a chance,” said India head coach Scott Flemming after the game.

India showcased immense grit and composure against one of the tournament’s top contenders, holding an 80-76 lead with less than a minute left in regulation. However, Jordan’s experience and clutch shooting helped them claw back, eventually edging past the young Indian team in extra time.
Arvind Krishnan led India’s charge with 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists, while Pranav Prince added 12 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and a crucial block. Prince’s all-round performance was instrumental in India taking control late in the fourth quarter, including a key basket that gave them a two-possession cushion with 53 seconds remaining.
India’s defensive effort stood out throughout the game, pushing Jordan to the limit. In the final possession of regulation, Prince once again played a pivotal role, drawing defenders before passing to Muin Bek Hafeez, whose buzzer-beating attempt narrowly missed.
