FIFA World Cup 2026 To Have 3 Opening Ceremonies: Katy Perry, Lisa Among Confirmed Performers

FIFA president Gianni Infantino said the ceremonies would showcase the identity of each host nation while highlighting the tournament’s global spirit.

The FIFA World Cup 2026 will kickstart with three separate opening ceremonies across host nations Mexico, Canada and the USA, with FIFA confirming a global lineup of music stars set to headline the celebrations. The tournament gets underway from June 11 at Mexico City Stadium – formerly the Azteca Stadium – ahead of the opening match between Mexico and South Africa.
The celebrations will then continue in Toronto and Los Angeles on June 12 as Canada and the United States begin their campaigns.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino said the ceremonies would showcase the identity of each host nation while highlighting the tournament’s global spirit.
“Starting with Mexico City and continuing the next days with Toronto and Los Angeles, these ceremonies will bring together music, culture and football in a way that reflects both the individuality of each nation and the unity that defines this tournament,” Infantino said in a statement.
He added that the events would mark “a truly global celebration” connecting fans “across time zones and borders.”
Organisers also said supporters will play an “active role” during the shows and encouraged fans to arrive early at stadiums.
Mexico will launch the tournament with a ceremony staged 90 minutes before kickoff at Mexico City Stadium. The lineup includes J Balvin, Maná, Alejandro Fernández, Belinda, Lila Downs, Tyla, Los Ángeles Azules
Canada’s opening match against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto will feature a celebration designed as a “journey across Canada” showcasing the country from coast to coast. Artists confirmed include Alanis Morissette, Michael Bublé, Alessia Cara, Elyanna, Jessie Reyez, Nora Fatehi.
The United States will begin their World Cup campaign against Paraguay in Los Angeles with a performance lineup reflecting the country’s cultural diversity and musical influence. Confirmed performers include Katy Perry, Future, Lisa, Anitta, Rema, Tyla.
FIFA also confirmed that more artists will be announced in the lead-up to the tournament. Additional global performers expected to appear during the opening festivities include Danny Ocean and Sanjoy.
