Cockroach Janata Party: Cockroach Janta Party, a satire platform, has rapidly become one of India’s biggest internet sensations, gaining over 11 million followers on Instagram within days of its launch and even surpassing the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s follower count on the social media platform.

The CJP’s Instagram handle has 56 posts, most of them satirical videos and graphics mocking political culture and institutional failures. Several politicians, including Akhilesh Yadav and Mahua Moitra, have also reacted to the trend online.

The viral movement was launched on May 16 by Abhijeet Dipke, a political communication student based in the United States, who introduced the mock “party” through a Google Form on X, inviting people to register. What began as an online joke soon turned into a major youth-driven social media movement.

The development marks a new phase in India’s online political culture, where a satirical party created after social media outrage is now competing with major political parties in terms of online popularity.

Celebrating the achievement, the party posted, “It took just four days. Don’t underestimate the power of the youth.” Dipke also mocked the BJP’s “world’s largest party” image in a post on X, writing, “World’s largest party they said.”

On Instagram, the Bharatiya Janata Party has about 8.7 million followers, while the Aam Aadmi Party has around 1.9 million followers. The Congress currently leads with nearly 13.2 million followers on the platform.

What Are CJP’s Demands?

According to the party’s Instagram bio, the CJP describes itself as “a political front of the youth, by the youth, for the youth.” Its website openly states that it is a work of satire.

The movement was launched after Chief Justice of India Surya Kant reportedly compared youth to “cockroaches”. During a court hearing on May 15, the CJI had reportedly said that some unemployed youngsters become journalists, RTI activists or social media users and “start attacking everyone”. However, he later clarified that his remarks were misquoted and were taken out of context.

Dipke said the “Cockroach Janta Party” was created as a sarcastic response to those comments and as a platform for frustrated young Indians. Within hours, thousands reportedly signed up through the online form, while the Instagram page quickly exploded in popularity through memes, reels and political satire.

The party calls itself the “Voice of the Lazy and Unemployed” and says it represents people “the system forgot to count.” Despite its humorous tone, the movement has released a five-point manifesto targeting issues such as exam paper leaks, political defections, judicial appointments and transparency in political funding.

Among its demands are strict action against exam fraud, abolition of rechecking fees in school boards, transparency under the RTI Act and a ban on post-retirement Rajya Sabha positions for retired judges.
