Union Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed India’s preparations for hosting the 2030 Commonwealth Games and the country’s bid for the 2036 Olympic Games at a meeting in Ahmedabad on Thursday.
The meeting was attended by Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi.
“Modi Govt is firmly committed to establishing India as a global sporting destination by hosting international sporting events…chaired a review meeting on India’s bid for the 2036 Olympics, as well as preparations for hosting the 2029 Police and Fire Games and the 2030 Commonwealth Games, in Ahmedabad,” Shah posted on X.

The Home Ministry will play a critical role during the Games, particularly in overseeing security arrangements and other logistical requirements.
The Commonwealth Games are set to return to India after two decades, with Ahmedabad chosen as the host city. Delhi hosted the showpiece event for the first time in India in 2010.
Ahmedabad is also in contention to host the 2036 Olympic Games, with Sanghavi representing the city in interactions with the International Olympic Committee. He also holds the sports portfolio in Gujarat.
India is currently in the Continuous Dialogue phase of the Olympic host selection process, with a decision on the country’s bid not expected before 2029.
Before these events, Ahmedabad will host the World Police and Fire Games, which will be the city’s first major multi-sport international competition. The mega-event is expected to feature close to 10,000 athletes from 70 countries.
