Soodamani’s works include a collection of short stories and a novella.
Professor Vijay of St. Xavier’s College said that the author Soodamani’s stories involve dreams of children and their relation to reality.
An educational convention was held recently in the Department of Visual Communication at St. Xavier’s College, Palayamkottai in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. Many personalities from the field of literature and education were present on the occasion. One noteworthy attendee who stood out was 13-year-old Nellai Soodamani, a budding author who recently released a novella and a collection of short stories. Soodamani also spoke during the convention, sharing her experience of writing stories and publishing them at such a young age.
Professor Vijay of St. Xavier’s College said that Soodamani’s stories involved dreams of children and their relation to reality. “The graphic representations of the environment make the world of children appear to be so lovely. Children’s imaginations naturally visualize the beautiful qualities of the animal kingdom and the dialectic of nature, which is a symbol of the thinking of the prehistoric culture,” Professor Vijay said.
“The straightforward presentations of Madur Koliyur and Puliyur serve as the foundation for Sudamani’s tales of India’s regional identity and national cohesion. The dialogue that occurs in the story demonstrates its raw nature. The writing of Soodamani opens up the possibility of a reading experience distinct from the literary idealism of Tamil literature,” he added.
Nellai Soodamani’s published works include “When?”, a collection of short stories and “Mrigadesam”, a novella. The Government Museum in Palayamkottai hosted the Mrigadesam book launch ceremony earlier this month. The book was presented to Mathivanan, the district coordinator of ATREE (Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment), by Vannadasan, the respected laureate of the Sahitya Akademi Award.
The title of the youngest author in India is held by Ayan Kapadia, a 14-year-old boy from Mumbai who published a fiction novella revolving around a magician in 2018 when he was just 9 years old. He is said to have written the story in just 3 days.
