As of 12:50 pm, the BSE Sensex was at 74,596.28, up 259.83 points or 0.35%, while the Nifty 50 stood at 23,336.80, higher by 0.51%. The Sensex hit an intraday high of 74,677.56, while the Nifty touched 23,363.55.

The broader market continued to outperform the benchmark indices. Nifty Next 50 rose 1.07%, Nifty Midcap 50 gained 1.21%, Nifty Midcap 100 advanced 1.09% and Nifty Smallcap 100 climbed 0.82%. India VIX fell 6.58% to 12.30, indicating a decline in near-term volatility.

Realty, auto, pharma stocks lead sectoral gains

Most sectoral indices traded in the green. Nifty Realty surged 1.75%, Nifty Auto gained 1.39%, Nifty Pharma rose 1.39% and Nifty Healthcare added 1.38%. Nifty Financial Services ex-Bank advanced 1.41%, while Nifty Financial Services gained 0.58%.

Nifty Metal rose 0.87%, Nifty Cement gained 0.86%, Nifty Chemicals advanced 0.76% and Nifty FMCG climbed 0.53%.

IT stocks, which were under pressure in early trade, recovered marginally, with Nifty IT up 0.04%. Nifty Oil & Gas was almost flat, down 0.01%.

Eternal, BEL among top Sensex gainers

Among Sensex constituents, Eternal jumped 2.68%, BEL gained 2.28%, IndusInd Bank rose 2.13% and Maruti Suzuki advanced 1.48%. Mahindra & Mahindra, Larsen & Toubro and Bajaj Finance were also among the notable gainers.

On the other side, Titan fell 0.95%, HDFC Bank declined 0.84%, Infosys slipped 0.44% and HCL Technologies was down 0.35%. ICICI Bank and Hindustan Unilever were also trading lower.

The midday recovery comes as investors continue to assess the impact of the US Federal Reserve’s 25-basis-point rate hike and its signal of another possible increase this year. The stronger dollar, elevated US Treasury yields, crude oil prices and rupee weakness remain key factors for Indian equities.

Overall, market breadth remained positive, with gains extending beyond large caps into mid- and small-cap stocks, while the sharp fall in India VIX points to easing intraday volatility.
