‘Rhythm of His Runway is Very Good’: Neeraj Chopra Lauds Kishore Jena’s Technique – News18

Olympic gold medallist and World Champion Neeraj Chopra praised his compatriot and fellow javelin throw athlete Kishore Jena as he lauded the latter’s runway rhythm.

Jena, who bagged the silver medal at the Asian Games in Hangzhou with a personal best throw of 87.54m, completed an Indian 1-2 in the event as Chopra claimed the yellow metal with a throw of 88.88m to defend his title.

“He is not of big built but he has a lot of strength,” Chopra said of Jena.

“The rhythm of his runway is very good, that is his strength. I saw him during the Asian Games. If your runaway is good, you can throw very well,” Chopra said.

“I told him to keep his runway like this or improve upon it. His strength, technique and the way he follows the javelin till the end are very good,” Chopra revealed.

“He is fast and has great potential. The way he improved this year, he can even do better next year.”

Chopra also shed light on the difference between the runups of the two athletes as he opined that Jena’s speed on the runway keeps increasing.

“My runway is jig-jag in between, stops a bit and slows down when I start cross-stepping before releasing the javelin. But his runway speed is very good, his speed keeps on increasing,” Chopra elaborated.

“I feel his blocking leg bends a bit if you see him in the video. If he works on his blocking leg, he can do even better,” the 25-year-old said.

Chopra also opened up on an Indian bid for the Asked about India’s interest in hosting the 2036 Olympics and said that it is a dream of his for the nation to host the multi-sport extravaganza.

“For me, I want this to happen,” the champion javelin thrower asserted.

“My dream was for the Olympics to happen in India and I could play. But it is very difficult to last so long in javelin.”

“I can’t be there till then. But I hope to watch it happen. Sports would have gone up much at a higher level with more medals by then,” he added.
