Win or lose, survive or go down — none of it changes how Roberto De Zerbi feels about Tottenham Hotspur.
With Tottenham heading into the final day of the Premier League season still staring at the possibility of relegation, the Italian manager once again reaffirmed his commitment to the North London club.
Spurs sit just two points above 18th-placed West Ham United heading into Sunday’s home clash against Everton. A draw would almost certainly be enough to guarantee survival thanks to Tottenham’s superior goal difference.
But defeat, combined with a West Ham win over Leeds United, could send Spurs crashing out of the top flight for the first time since 1977.
Despite the pressure surrounding the club, De Zerbi insisted his position has not changed.
“Yeah, I confirm everything,” De Zerbi told reporters on Friday when asked whether he would remain even if Tottenham were relegated.
“It’s still an honour to be a coach for Tottenham, even if on Sunday we play for the relegation fight, it’s not a problem.”
The former Brighton manager also stressed that football means more to him than league positions alone.
“I consider football something more than the table,” he added. “We are fighting for something very important for everyone. It is football.
“But we have enough quality. To attack the pressure, you have to find the valour inside yourself, to understand the situation and force yourself to give your best.”
Ironically, standing in Tottenham’s way is a manager with emotional stakes of his own.
David Moyes admitted he would love Everton to help save his former club, West Ham, from relegation.
Moyes spent more than five years across two spells managing the Hammers and famously guided them to the UEFA Conference League title in 2023.
“I’d love to keep West Ham in the league if I can,” Moyes said.
Still, the Everton boss made it clear that his primary objective remains finishing the season strongly with his current side.
