About the Author:

Viola De Cruz is a writer of humorous tales and personal reflections, some of which are published in her People Watching blog. Originally from Malaysia, she met her husband in England and moved to Chania, on the island of Crete, Greece, in 1983, where she ran an English Language school for 20 years. Besides writing, she enjoys travelling and gardening. She holds a BA in English Literature and a Diploma in Education from the University of Malaya and a Masters in Linguistics and ELT from the University of Leeds.

Q: What Inspired You To Write This Book?

A:My childhood experience on British rubber estates around peninsula Malaysia in the 50’s and 60’s . It left an indelible mark on me and I wanted to share it.

Q: What Did You Learn When Writing The Book?

A: I learnt to cherish the memories of childhood.

Q: Was The Character Inspired By A Real Person?

A: All the characters were inspired by the unforgettable people I knew but with a stretch of my imagination.

Q: What Do You Think Happened To The Characters After The Book Ended?

A: At least for me they took on a life of their own and became very real.

Q: How Long Does It Take You To Write A Book?

A: Forever. This book took me 10 years with lots of breaks in between of course.

Q: What, In Your Opinion, Are The Most Important Elements Of Good Writing?

A: To write from the heart.
