Punjab Kings still have a farfetched chance of securing a spot in the playoffs following their record-breaking victory over Kolkata Knight Riders.
The Punjab Kings have finally gotten over the line as they beat Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens to secure a record-breaking run-chase to get back to winning ways in IPL 2024.
Jonny Bairstow was the star for Punjab Kings by scoring an unbeaten 108 in 48 balls to help lead the side to an emphatic win over the hosts. However, he was not alone as Prabhsimran Singh helped set the tone in the powerplay by scoring a quickfire 54 off just 20 deliveries. However, a mixup between the opening duo meant that the right-hander was run out.
Following this, Shashank Singh took charge in the final stages of the innings by scoring 68 in just 28 balls to help the side over the line and get some crucial points to get them up to eighth in the points table.
KKR seemed to have the win in their hands as Sunil Narine and Phil Salt’s fifties gave the home side the perfect start they needed to set a big score. But the side continues to bottle their home games as this becomes yet another instance where both sides have conceded over 200 runs.
RCB continue languishing at the bottom of the pile and the win for PBKS will definitely have dented their chances of securing a playoff spot. For PBKS however, they are now only four points away from the top-two spots and will rely on some favourable outcomes.
