Kalvin Phillips Joins Ipswich Town In A Season-Long Loan Deal From Man City – News18

Phillips, who joined Manchester City in 2022 from his boyhood club Leeds United, could make his Ipswich debut on Saturday against Liverpool.
Premier League newcomers Ipswich Town FC on Friday (August 16) completed the signing of English midfielder Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City on a season-long loan deal. The 28-year-old footballer, who joined the Pep Guardiola side from Leeds United in 2022, could make his debut for Ipswich on Saturday (August 17) against Liverpool.
The Reds are set to travel to Portman Road for Ipswich’s first match in the top flight after 22 years.
“This is a day I’ve been waiting for a number of weeks for now and I’m very happy to be here,” Phillips said after joining Ipswich.
“I want to play as many games as possible, enjoy playing football again, and help the team win as many games as possible in the Premier League,” he added.
Phillips made a big name for himself during his time in the Premier League with his boyhood club Leeds United after they earned promotion in the 2020–21 season. But he has made only five top-flight starts since leaving Leeds to join Manchester City for a reported £45 million ($58 million) in 2022.
He struggled with fitness in the last two years and spent the second half of last season on loan at West Ham United.
Speaking about the new signing, Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna said the 28-year-old English midfielder has so much to offer in terms of his qualities.
“Kalvin has much to offer us in terms of his qualities both on and off the ball, and he is a really humble and likeable character. He has been a key member of a newly promoted team in the Premier League before and of course made a big impression for Leeds United during that period,” he said.
Kalvin played in a total of 49 matches in the Premier League for Leeds United and scored one goal. In the last couple of seasons, he played 16 Premier League matches for Manchester City. As a Manchester City player, Phillips won the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup in the 2022–23 season.
The Leeds-born midfielder has also played in 31 matches for England and was part of the Gareth Southgate side, which finished as runners-up in Euro 2021 and reached the quarterfinals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
