3 Coaches Of Secunderabad-Shalimar Superfast Express Derail Near Howrah

Three coaches of the Secunderabad-Shalimar Superfast Express derailed near Howrah in West Bengal early this morning. The special train that runs weekly between Howrah and Hyderabad derailed in Nalpur, about 40 km from Kolkata, around 5:30 am. While one of the coaches was a parcel van, the other two were passenger coaches – a third AC economy and third AC.
No casualty or major injury was reported.
“A parcel van and two coaches of 22850 Secunderabad-Shalimar Weekly Express derailed while passing through Nalpur station of Kharagpur Division at 5.31 am today,” said South Eastern Railway (SER) in a statement.
The derailment occurred when the train was crossing over from the middle to the outer tracks, said SER spokesperson Omprakash Charan Sai.
An accident relief train and medical relief trains from Santragachhi and Kharagpur reached the derailment site, said the official. Buses were also arranged to take the stranded passengers to their destinations.
He said a departmental inquiry will be held into the accident.
Some express and suburban trains were delayed due to the accident, the official said, adding that a helpline (032229-3764) has been made operational at Kharagpur.
