Former US President Donald Trump spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on February 12, just hours after his conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Zelenskyy described the discussion as “meaningful” and said that there are plans to collaborate at the team level with the US and advance Ukraine’s drone and high-tech industries.
“I had a meaningful conversation with @POTUS. We long talked about opportunities to achieve peace, discussed our readiness to work together at the team level, and Ukraine’s technological capabilities—including drones and other advanced industries. I am grateful to President Trump for his interest in what we can accomplish together,” Zelenskyy said.
He reiterated that “no one wants peace more than Ukraine” and emphasised coordinated efforts with the US to counter Russian aggression and secure lasting stability.
Trump reportedly shared details of his discussion with Putin, Zelenskyy said.
“No one wants peace more than Ukraine. Together with the US, we are charting our next steps to stop Russian aggression and ensure a lasting, reliable peace. As President Trump said, let’s get it done. We agreed to maintain further contact and plan upcoming meetings,” Zelenskyy further added.
Donald Trump said Wednesday that his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky wanted “peace,” after the US president spoke to Russia’s Vladimir Putin about talks to end the Ukraine war.
“I just spoke to President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine. The conversation went very well. He, like President Putin, wants to make PEACE,” Trump said on Truth Social, adding that Zelensky would meet US Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Munich on Friday.
He also said that he had a “lengthy and highly productive” call with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday in which they agreed to “immediately” start negotiations to end the Ukraine war.
The Kremlin separately said the call lasted one and a half hours and that Putin and Trump had agreed that the “time has come to work together.”
Putin also told Trump that a “long-term settlement” of the Ukraine conflict sparked by Russia’s 2022 invasion of its pro-Western neighbor was possible, and invited the US president to Moscow, the Kremlin said.
The call by the US President comes as his treasury secretary Scott Bessent reached Ukraine to hold talks with the Ukrainian President. According to US media outlets, they discussed an economic investment deal related to rare earth materials.
“We also spoke about my discussion with @SecScottBessent and the preparation of a new document on security, economic cooperation, and resource partnership,” Zelenskyy said.
