Sarfaraz Khan brought his superb form from the Vijay Hazare Trophy (303 runs in six innings at an average of 75.75 and a strike rate of 190.56) to the Ranji Trophy and put the Hyderabad bowling attack to the sword, registering his fourth double century in the tournament.

He credited a recent meeting with former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin for success on a tough strip.

“Azhar sir told me about how reverse swing comes into the picture very fast on this ground. That is why he also gets credits for this 200. We spoke about batting for about an hour-and-a-half. He taught me a lot, like where to stand and play inswing, for example.”

“My father used to show his videos to me. In fact, I still watch them to improve my flick shots. I am a fan!”

The only disruptions to the 28-year-old’s knock were the frequent medical breaks his troublesome wrist demanded.

“Whenever the ball bounced, I had to play on the back foot. I have a swelling in my bone, but I pushed through as I wanted to register a big score.”

The 200 came with an emotional celebration to boot — showing off his right wrist.

“I just wanted to say that I can make runs even when injured. I am a fighter, I have been fighting since childhood. I am always ready for Mumbai. It doesn’t matter what people say about you, what matters is how right you are”.
