K. Govindan Kutty, veteran journalist and author, passed away in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday. He was 81. During a long and eventful journalistic career, Mr. Govindan Kutty had worked with news organisations including the All India Radio, The Indian Express and India Today. Highly respected among his peers, Mr. Govindan Kutty was the first to report then Prime Minister Morarji Desai’s miraculous survival in a 1977 plane crash in Jorhat, Assam. He was then the AIR correspondent accompanying the Prime Minister. Mr. Govindan Kutty has written several books including ‘Seshan: An Intimate Story’ about former Chief Election Commissioner T.N. Seshan, ‘K. Karunakaran, a Political Biography,’ on the former Kerala Chief Minister, and ‘Vararuchi’s Children: Aspects of Kerala.’ Other works include ‘K.M. Mani, A Study in Regionalism.’ Mr. Govindan Kutty leaves behind his wife Saradamony and two children.
