Goutam Mitra Talks About His Book “How to achieve Business Excellence using Quality Mindset”

About the Author:

Goutam Mitra is a senior quality management and business excellence leader with nearly four decades of experience in a German multinational technology company and a commercial vehicles’ manufacturing giant in India. During his service tenure he was engaged in various functional and leadership roles of diverse businesses types – product, project solutions and service.
He has hands-on experience both as a domain expert and a leader driving excellence in Manufacturing, Design and Engineering, Quality Management, Project Management, Business Excellence, Sales and Customer Relations giving him a 360-degree perspective of the business.
An electrical engineering graduate by qualification, he has completed a certified Management program from Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore. He is a certified lead auditor in Quality Management Systems in line with ISO 9001:2015 and has a successful track record in implementing several business process re-engineering projects and organizational transformations.

Q: What Inspired You To Write This Book?

A: All through my service years I have observed a gap among most industry professionals on their understanding and commitment towards Quality. This triggered me to write a book which will provide them inspiration and guidance on how to think and own quality in all their endeavours.

Q: Can You Tell Us About The Book?

A: The book provides conceptual inputs on various quality and excellence topics alongwith practical guidance for implementing them. The concepts are illustrated with real-world examples from industry leaders as well as relevant personal experiences during my industry stint.

Q: What Does The Title Mean?

A: The title refers to approaches to adopt a quality mindset to bring about a cultural transformation and achieve a sustainable business excellence for the organization.

Q: When did you write your first book and how old were you?

A: This is my first attempt at writing a book. After my superannuation earlier this year, I decided to use some of my spare time in penning down my experiences which I felt, will be useful to practicising business professionals. I intend to continue writing more books on various relevant topics in the coming days.

Q: In your opinion, what are the most important elements of good writing?

A: The most important elements in writing is the clarity of the message and the intent behind it. This helps the reader to connect better with the content.

Q: How important is research to you when writing a book?

A: I consider research as very important to get divergent views on the topic. This broadens the perspective of the author which may often be biased by his own personal experiences.

Q: What advice would you give to aspiring authors?

A: My advice to aspiring authors would be – don’t wait till your retirement. If you want to be an author, get going right now.
