US President Donald Trump on Tuesday said that the US would win its war with Iran “very soon” and claimed inflation would be “eradicated” once the conflict ends.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump said US officials had spoken with mediators seeking to end the conflict, but gave no details about the discussions.

“We’re going to win, as far as I’m concerned, it’s going to be one way or the other. It’s going to go pretty quickly,” Trump said.

He also said further US strikes before the November midterm elections were “possible”.

‘Inflation will be eradicated’

Trump also claimed that inflation would fall sharply once the conflict was over. “When you see what happens as soon as that war ends, inflation is going to be eradicated. Totally,” he said.

He also predicted that petrol prices would come “tumbling down” after the war ends.

Trump defended the decision to launch military action against Iran, saying he believed the conflict had prevented a wider threat.

“I went to war to stop what could be one of the worst things that could ever happen to the world — to us, but to the world,” he said.

“Israel would be wiped out right now. There would be no Israel, there’d be no Middle East, and then the rockets and the bombs would start coming our way and Europe’s way. And I stopped it.”

Iran Talks Remain Uncertain

Trump’s remarks come amid uncertainty over efforts to find a diplomatic way out of the conflict. US and Iranian officials held indirect talks last week in New York, with Qatar acting as a mediator.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi was also due to meet Qatari mediators in New York on Monday. However, Iranian state media reported that Tehran had no further talks with Washington scheduled.

Trump on Monday also rejected an Axios report that he was prepared to offer Iran sanctions relief and release frozen Iranian funds in return for nuclear concessions.

“Axios just released a story that ‘Trump’ offered Sanctions Relief and Frozen Funds to Iran. This is untrue. I offered them NOTHING!” he wrote on Truth Social, calling the report a “HOAX”.
