“Iran would love to make a deal. But they are not ready to make the right deal, in my opinion,” Trump told reporters, while saying US military options in the region remain open.
His comments came as Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held talks with Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi on efforts to reach an understanding over navigation through the strategic waterway. Oman has been playing a key mediating role between Washington and Tehran.
The latest diplomatic push follows escalating US pressure on Iran. Washington has threatened further action while demanding greater access through the Strait, a vital route for global energy shipments. Shipping traffic remains heavily constrained amid the conflict.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also met Oman’s top diplomat in Washington this week, underscoring Muscat’s importance in the negotiations. The meeting came shortly after Trump threatened military action against Oman over its handling of talks with Iran.
