US-Iran War Ceasefire News Highlights: Donald Trump has rejected a fresh proposal from Iran aimed at de-escalating tensions, with officials saying Washington is dissatisfied with the sequencing and conditions outlined by Tehran.

The proposal reportedly links an end to hostilities with the lifting of restrictions around the Strait of Hormuz – a critical global oil route. Iran has indicated it would only halt its blockade there if the United States simultaneously removes sanctions and what it describes as a “blockade” on Tehran, effectively tying de-escalation to reciprocal concessions.

Tehran has also suggested that negotiations over its nuclear programme be deferred to a later stage, rather than being addressed as part of the immediate ceasefire framework – an approach that appears to have further irked Washington.

While a fragile truce continues to hold, concerns about renewed conflict persist.

Israel’s military leadership has warned that the region could face prolonged instability, with its army chief indicating that the coming year may see continued hostilities involving both Iran and Hezbollah. He also underscored the need for additional troop recruitment to meet expanding operational demands.

Meanwhile, tensions have increased on the diplomatic stage. The United States and Iran have sparred at the United Nations over Tehran’s nuclear activities, as well as its appointment to a vice-presidential role at a key conference reviewing the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons – a move that has drawn criticism from Washington.

As the fragile ceasefire remains, Israel on Tuesday hit southern Lebanon and claimed that its forces have destroyed more than 1,000 ‘infrastructures’ used by Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, which include ‘booby-trapped buildings and buildings where weapons were located.
