PM Modi chairs high-level security meeting amid West Asia conflict: Report | India News – Times of India
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi presided over a meeting of the cabinet committee on security to address the recent eruption of hostilities in West Asia, according to PTI sources.
The meeting reportedly focused on the implications of the conflict on trade and the supply of petroleum products.
India expressed grave concern regarding the escalation of the security situation in West Asia, emphasising that “the conflict must not take a wider regional dimension.”
The nation has also urged for the resolution of all issues through peaceful means, advocating for “addressing all issues through dialogue and diplomacy.”
India has been ‘closely monitoring’ the West Asia crisis situation acccording to the external affairs ministry.On Tuesday, External affairs minister, voiced his apprehension regarding the current crisis in the Middle East during his address at the Carnegie Endowment in the United States. He suggested that India could play a role in facilitating communication between Israel and Iran amidst the challenging circumstances. Jaishankar reaffirmed India’s position on the matter, referring to the October 7 attack by Hamas on Israel as a “terrorist attack”.
Jaishankar emphasised that any nation’s response to such situations must consider international humanitarian law and exercise caution to minimize harm or consequences for civilian populations. He stressed the importance of adhering to these principles while addressing the ongoing crisis in the region.
Also, Indian embassy in Iran issued a travel advisory for Indian nationals regarding Iran advising to “all non-essential travel”.
