NEW DELHI: Bringing to SC’s notice various instances of Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s alleged hate speeches, including a recent controversial video featuring him, a group of citizens from Assam have urged SC through a petition to enforce its order in which it had directed that FIR must be lodged in cases of hate speech.Compiling his controversial statements, the petitioners alleged that the CM has repeatedly talked about social and economic boycott of Muslim community and also addressed them as “Miya” and “Bangladeshi”, which are derogatory terms, and sought SC’s intervention to restrain him from targeting the community. The petitioners — former professor Hiren Gohain, former DGP of Assam Harekrishna Deka, senior journalist Paresh Chandra Malakar and senior advocate Santanu Borthakur — moved the court through their advocate Yash S Vijay.“The petitioners are constrained to approach SC seeking its intervention to stop the ongoing and repeated hate speeches against a minority community, by none less than the CM, who is sullying his high constitutional office and violating his constitutional oath by indulging in blatant hate speech against a minority community in Assam, making speeches/videos overtly inciting violence against them, and instigating civilians to act against the community,” the plea stated.
