‘Ensure Checks At 113 Entry Points’: Supreme Court To Delhi Govt Amid Rising Air Pollution – News18

The Supreme Court has directed the Delhi government to deploy police at 113 entry points to curb truck entry into the national capital, amid air pollution.

The Supreme Court on Friday directed the Delhi government to depute police personnel at all 113 entry points to check the entry of trucks in the national capital. The direction came while the court was hearing a plea seeking enforcement of measures to improve the Air Quality Index (AQI) in the national capital, amid air pollution in Delhi-NCR.
As it questioned the Delhi government over the entry of trucks, a bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Augustine George Masih said, “It is very difficult for us to assume that entry of trucks in Delhi has been stopped.”
“We will directly ask the central government to post police personnel at all 113 entry points. We will direct the Delhi State legal services authority to deploy paralegal volunteers. They will constitute teams to visit all entry points and submit a report to us whether really vehicles are being stopped,” said Justice Oka.
“It is very difficult for us to assume that the entry of trucks is being stopped because there is no material placed on record that how many check posts you have established,” he added, as the counsel for Delhi informed the court that it had stopped entry from 113 points.
Further, Justice Oka suggested the appointment of a five-member bar team to visit all entry points in Delhi on Friday and Saturday.
Later, he said the court would examine the compliance of its order on Monday (November 25) and would then decide if the implementation could be reduced from GRAP IV to GRAP II.
The matter was posted for November 27 for further hearing.
On November 18, the Supreme Court had directed the Delhi government and adjoining states to immediately set up teams to strictly enforce anti-pollution Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) 4 restrictions, making it clear that the curbs would continue till further orders.
