499 kg of ganja worth around Rs 2.5 crore seized from container lorry near Kothagudem

The Sujathanagar police on Monday seized 499 kg of ganja from a container lorry during vehicle checking at Vepalagadda village in Bhadradri Kothagudem district.
The contraband, estimated to be worth around ₹2.50 crore, was being smuggled from neighbouring Andhra Pradesh to Jaipur in Rajasthan.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team intercepted the container lorry bearing registration number KA38A 6754 on the outskirts of Vepalagadda on Monday morning. The police seized 96 packets containing 499 kg dry ganja from the lorry.
The vehicle crew – Jagadeesh Dayaram Patil, 37, from Maharashtra, and Sanju Kumar, 49, a native of Kushnoor Thana in Karnataka’s Bidar district, were arrested.
The police registered a case against the duo and two other members of the inter-State ganja smuggling racket under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Further investigation is under way.
