Talent Not Enough For F1: World Champion Lando Norris Co-founds Single-Seater Junior Team

Reigning Formula One world champion Lando Norris has co-founded a new single-seater racing team, LN4 Fusion, aimed at helping young drivers progress through the junior categories and climb the motor racing ladder toward F1.
The McLaren driver announced the project ahead of this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix. LN4 Fusion has acquired assets from AIX Racing and will compete in Italian F4, the Formula Regional European Championship (FREC) and FIA Formula Three, a support series for Formula One, from 2027.
The team is also working towards entries in British F4 and Formula Two.
Norris said the project would allow him to remain closely involved in racing over the long term.
“I think the main part of this for me is I get to simply stay very involved in racing, and because this is a very long-term project, it’s not just a two-year, five-year, 10-year. Hopefully this is much longer,” Norris said ahead of this week’s Italian Grand Prix.
“It’s about always having a team that I can support myself, always having a team that I can really feel a part of, be my family, be cars that I see on TV that I can support,” he added.
The team’s livery will feature Norris’ familiar black and neon yellow-green helmet design. LN4 Fusion will be run day-to-day by experienced managers from the junior racing series, while the team says “Lando will play an active role in shaping our identity and culture.”
The principal will be Rene Rosin, whose family founded Italy-based Prema, a highly successful junior racing team that helped several current F1 drivers, including Mercedes’ current championship leader Kimi Antonelli, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Norris’s McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri, rise through the ranks. Prema’s former technical director Guillaume Capietto will serve as racing director.
Alongside the team, Norris is launching a separate, fully funded driver development initiative, the LN4 Legacy Programme. It is designed to identify and support exceptional young talent by removing financial barriers and providing access to coaching, mentoring and career guidance.
Norris said the programme was particularly important to him because of the support he received during his own career.
Norris is also setting up a separate LN4 Legacy Programme to provide financial backing to young drivers “who might not otherwise have the financial backing or support they need to fulfil their potential,” he said, adding it’s important to him “because I know how lucky I was to have support from my family in my journey.”
Explaining the wider motivation behind both projects, Norris said, “I’ve been really lucky to have some amazing people around me throughout my career and I know that getting to Formula One takes so much more than just talent,” he said ahead of this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix. “You need the right people around you, the right support and the right opportunities at the right time. That’s what these two projects are all about.”
Norris said he wanted to create opportunities for the next generation, on and off the track, “and hopefully make a real difference to young drivers coming through the sport.”
Norris, who signed a new contract with McLaren through 2030 last week, joins a small group of F1 champions who have extended their involvement into other areas of motorsport.
Four-time champion Max Verstappen has competed for his own sportscar team in endurance racing. Three-time champion Jack Brabham also won one of his F1 titles driving for his own Brabham team, which competed in Formula One for 30 years.
