Trump In China Live Updates: US President Donald Trump landed in Beijing, marking the first visit by an American leader to China in nearly a decade. Trump is scheduled to hold talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday and Friday, with trade set to dominate the agenda.

The discussions are also expected to cover Taiwan and the ongoing Iran conflict, both seen as major areas of tension between Washington and Beijing.

Before leaving for Beijing, Trump said he planned to have a “long talk” with Xi about Iran, although he insisted the United States did not need China’s help. “We’ll win it one way or the other, peacefully or otherwise,” he told reporters.

China draws ‘four red lines’

The Chinese Embassy in the United States has stressed that “mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation” remain the correct path for China-US relations.

The embassy also repeated Beijing’s position that four major issues in China-US ties “must not be challenged”. These include the Taiwan question, democracy and human rights issues, differences in political systems, and China’s development rights. Beijing described these matters as central to maintaining stable ties between the two countries.

China has said it is ready to work with the United States to expand cooperation while also managing differences between the two countries.
