Tim David smashed the fastest T20I hundred by an Australian, reaching the landmark in just 37 balls during a high-octane chase of 215 against the West Indies in St. Kitts on Tuesday. His blistering knock powered Australia to a dominant win and an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series.Coming in after the fall of the third wicket at the end of the Powerplay, David made an immediate impact with a boundary off his first delivery. He then tore into the West Indies spin trio of Gudakesh Motie, Akeal Hosein, and Roston Chase, launching nine towering sixes in the space of three overs.David raced to his fifty in just 16 balls—surpassing the previous Australian T20I record of 17 balls, jointly held by Marcus Stoinis and Travis Head. He eventually reached his century in 37 deliveries, eclipsing Josh Inglis’ 43-ball effort against Scotland last year as the fastest by an Australian in men’s T20Is.He stitched together a match-winning 128-run stand for the fourth wicket with Mitchell Owen, who chipped in with a brisk 36 off 16 balls. Australia chased down the target with ease, wrapping up the win in just 16.1 overs. This was David’s first competitive outing since May 23, having recovered from a hamstring injury that sidelined him during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s title-winning playoff run in the IPL.His innings included 11 sixes—second only to Aaron Finch’s record of 14 in a single T20I innings by an Australian batter.

“Absolutely not (when asked if he should be batting higher up in the batting order), just had a great time in the middle wanting to make the most of every opportunity with the bat. Was really nice to spend time at home, I had picked up a niggle, didn’t think too much, didn’t think I would score a 100 for Australia,” David said after guiding Australia to 6-wicket win over Windies.

“The pitch was good and the boundaries were short, I just backed myself to play my shots. You always use your experience of playing here and it came good for me. I’ve worked a lot on my power-hitting, but I’m looking to make the most of my range as a stroke-maker,” David, who was adjudged Player of the Match, said.
