Iran-US War News Live Updates: The US on Tuesday escalated pressure on Iran by firing on a Panama-flagged cargo ship in the Gulf of Oman after US forces said it tried to breach Washington’s blockade of Iranian ports.

A US military helicopter fired missiles into the M/V Vela Nova’s engine room after its crew ignored repeated warnings, disabling the vessel. No casualties were immediately reported. This is the third reported US action against a vessel since the blockade was reinstated in July.

The move comes as diplomacy remains uncertain. Pakistan says Washington and Tehran are close to “some sort” of peace arrangement, while Qatar says talks on managing Hormuz are at an advanced stage. But Iran has set tough conditions.

Mohsen Rezaei, Tehran’s new Supreme National Security Council secretary, said Hormuz will not reopen until the US ends the war and blockade, releases frozen Iranian assets and agrees to a wider ceasefire covering Lebanon and Gaza. US President Donald Trump, meanwhile, has accused Iran of being “devious negotiators” and said he was weighing economic pressure or stronger military action.

Fresh violence has also hit Red Sea shipping, where a suspected Houthi attack on the Tihamah cargo ship killed six in Bab el-Mandeb, adding another deadly front to shipping.
